Perfect Ten
The 1st XI made it a perfect 10 out of 10 on Saturday with a comfortable win over Y.M.C.A. at Golden Hill.
Having surprisingly won the toss, Robbie unsurprisingly elected to field and his decision was immediately backed up by excellent opening spells from John Hance and Jamie Haswell. The pressure was increased as John Parsons (4 for 35) started to rip through the batting lineup. Some late order hitting enabled the hosts to creep over 150, but this still looked well short of a par score.
The Cleeve reply got off to a great start, with Andy Burrell and Mike Haswell punishing some wayward bowling. The demise of Andy sparked a mini collapse from 55 without loss to 89 for 4, before Robbie came to the crease to shore up one end despite chipping his nail varnish during the pre match warm-ups.
Mike continued to dispatch the bowlers to all parts, and seemed to be on his way towards what looked like a certain hundred before a barrage of extras and a couple of boundaries from Robbie left him just shy, finishing unbeaten on 97, as Cleeve strolled home by 6 wickets with more than 12 overs in hand.
