Chairman's Game - Chairman's Report
This years Chairman’s game was again a resounding success.
It was decided to revert to the old format where we would have two games, one in the morning, with a break for lunch, followed by a longer game in the afternoon.
The President’s XI fielded an array of talent invited from various clubs in the local area, led by Cleeve CC old boy Ken Carpenter.
Cleeve were able to field a squad of 16 for the two games, with players from all senior teams and some of the youth teams.
The morning game was won by the President’s XI, however Andy Burrell stepped in and advised everyone that under the Duckworth/Burrell method of scoring the scores were level as Cleeve had lost two fewer wickets than the President’s XI which improved their score by fifteen runs, to coincidently match the President’s XI score. Andy therefore declared the game a tie.
The main contributions to the scores were:-
President’s XI - Nick Carpenter 42 and John Bachelor 27
Chairman’s XI – Bill Mather 30 and Andy Burrell 20
The Chairman’s XI in the afternoon required major surgery as some of the senior players were tired from the morning game, and the demands of the league game against Failand & Portbury the previous day. Or was it that they were just too lazy to field, and only wanted to bat! A number of them needed to take an afternoon nap, most notably Ian (Mitch) Mitchell, who does this regularly because of his age.
The President’s XI had a resounding victory, with what was probably the highest score achieved in a Cleeve CC Chairman’s game (over 300 in 35 overs). The main scorers were John Bachelor with an outstanding innings of 103 not out, Rob Cunliffe with 72, Mark Plummer 68, Nick Carpenter 29 and Kyle Abbott 21 not out.
Cleeve responded with a respectable score of just over 200, with the main run makers being Mike Carpenter with a stylish 73, Mitch Want with an excellent crafted innings of 58 not out and stalwart Chris Lewin with 25.
The weather, food and the company were first class. We look forward to next years event.
Thanks go to all of the players who participated, those who kindly umpired and of course the scorers Jason Soper and Chalkie White.
Cleeve Cricket Club hope that everyone who took part on the day, including the spectators, enjoyed the experience.
